A new acquisition for the Italian papermaker. The company has just announced that it has acquired a stake in Papkot, a start-up that has developed a fiber-based paper coating technology. This operation is in line with Fedrigoni’s strategy of identifying innovative start-ups with industrial potential.
“Papkot has developed the first large-scale paper coating technology offering the same properties as plastic, by replacing silicone and cellulose with a nanostructured material. This promises to help eliminate plastic from single-use packaging,” explains Fedrigoni. ““This protective coating is fully recyclable and biodegradable.”
Together, the two companies intend to accelerate the deployment of Papkot technology on a global scale, to give FMCG brands (especially cosmetics) access to high-performance, fully recyclable and biodegradable packaging solutions.
