Could you remind us what the rules are for claims from the point of view of the competent authorities?
The DGCCRF’s answer
I’d like to refer you to a document we published on the Internet: Cosmetic product claims, not everything is permitted. And you’ll come across a paper we’ve published explaining what we think the rules are for making claims we consider lawful.
• Always ask yourself whether the claim could mislead a non-specialist consumer: “It’s not complicated,” Catherine Argoyti explained, “you go to your neighbor or your mom and ask: What do you understand when I say: ‘this product will remove all wrinkles?’ Depending on how your neighbor understands the claim, you’ll know whether what you plan to use will be well understood by the average consumer.”
• Always refer to Regulation 655/2013, which develops the Common Criteria for claim compliance.
