Prostaglandin analogues: final Opinion of the SCCS
In its assessment in early 2022, the SCCS was unable to reach a conclusion on the safety of prostaglandin analogues substances. The industry has since provided new data, and the Scientific Committee has re-evaluated these substances and has just published the final version of its new Opinion.
Basic Blue 99, Basic Brown 16: final versions of the SCCS Scientific Advices
In March, the SCCS (Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety) accepted mandates from the European Commission to assess the safety of two hair dye ingredients, Basic blue 99 (C059) and Basic Brown 16 (C009). It just published the final versions of its Scientific Advices.
Thiomersal, Phenylmercuric salts: final Opinion of the SCCS
In January 2025, the SCCS accepted the European Commission’s mandate to assess the safety of Thiomersal and Phenylmercury salts as preservatives. The Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety has just published the final Opinion of its Scientific Advice.
Aggregate exposure to salicylic acid: Request for Opinion to the SCCS
On January 12, 2026, the Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) approved, by written procedure, the European Commission’s mandate to assess the safety of aggregate exposure to salicylic acid and its esters. The Scientific Committee has 12 months to deliver its opinion.
Micron-sized Silver : preliminary Opinion of the SCCS
In October 2025, the SCCS accepted the European Commission’s mandate to evaluate the safety of micron-sized particulate Silver in cosmetic products. The Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety has just published its preliminary Opinion. It is open for comments until February 23, 2026.
