On May 26, 2025, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) launched a consultation on the Germany proposal for harmonized classification and labeling (CLH) of Trifluoroacetic Acid, a pH adjuster. This consultation is open until July 25, 2025.

Trifluoroacetic acid (CAS No.76-05-1, EC No.200-929-3, INCI: Trifluoroacetic Acid) is an ingredient listed in Cosing, with the function: pH adjuster.
The substance is currently not regulated by European Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009.
It is listed in Annex VI/607-091-00-1 of the European CLP Regulation 1272/2008, with the following classifications.
• Acute Tox. 4*, H332 - Harmful if inhaled.
• Skin Corr. 1A, H314 - Causes severe skin burns and eye damage.
• Aquatic Chronic 3, H412 - Harmful to aquatic life with long lasting effects.
