On 12 December 2025, the IFRA (International Fragrance Association) published the 52nd amendment to its Standards. Eleven months later, on 12 November 2026, the new Standards on specifications and restrictions came into force for new creations.
The consultation had also opened on 12 December 2025 and closed on 12 June 2026. It covered three areas:
• all 69 Standards affected by changes (new and revised),
• the update to the Guidelines for the Use of the Standards,
• a detailed appendix compiling contributions from other sources, including information on the presence of these substances in natural ingredients.
For further details, see the article IFRA notifies the 52nd amendment to its Standards.
These new provisions must be complied with by IFRA members, for whom IFRA has set compliance deadlines. For new formulations, the deadline has been set at 11 months and therefore expires on 12 November.
Reminder: a new creation is defined as any fragrance blend for which the briefing was issued after the completion of the exchange of information throughout the supply chain (i.e. the updating of IT systems, the bilateral exchange of information between fragrance houses, and the exchange of information between fragrance houses and clients).
