
On December 17, 2025, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) announced Sweden’s intention to amend the harmonized classification and labeling (CLH) of Acrylic Acid, which may be used in nail products.
Acrylic acid (CAS No.79-10-7, EC No.201-177-9, INCI: Acrylic Acid) is an ingredient listed in the Cosing, with the function: Nail conditioning.
The substance is currently not regulated by European Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009.
It is listed in Annex VI/607-061-00-8 of European CLP Regulation 1272/2008, with the following classifications.
• Flam. Liq. 3, H226 - Flammable liquid and vapour.
• Acute Tox. 4*, H302 - Harmful if swallowed.
• Acute Tox. 4*, H312 - Harmful in contact with skin.
• Acute Tox. 4*, H332 - Harmful if inhaled.
• Skin Corr. 1A, H314 - Causes severe skin burns and eye damage.
• Aquatic Acute 1, H400 - Very toxic to aquatic life
Specific concentration limits are defined for:
• STOT SE 3, H335 - May cause respiratory irritation: C ≥ 1%
Sweden intends to propose adding the following classification.
• Skin Sens. 1, H317 - May cause an allergic skin reaction.
