Hygiene plays a key role in social interaction. These are the findings of a survey of 2,794 French people conducted by the 900.care brand.

76% of French people rate hygiene as the first thing they notice in someone. Even ahead of style of dress (52%) and smile (48%).
This criterion is even more crucial among young people: 81% of 18-34 year-olds consider a lack of hygiene to be a barrier, compared to 65% of over-50s.

Everyday essentials

There’s no question of going without certain products. 92% of those surveyed say that toothpaste is their must-have ally, closely followed by deodorant (87%).
But priorities change with age:
• 68% of 18-24 year-olds prefer perfume and facial care
• 73% of those over 50 focus on hair care products

Revealing dilemmas

If respondents had to choose, what would they sacrifice? 54% of French people would rather forget their deodorant than their toothpaste, while 39% could do without shower gel, but not shampoo. Finally, 62% think that a good perfume can compensate for imperfect hygiene… provided it remains occasional!

Hygiene and relationships: a major issue

More than just a detail, hygiene is a real key to social relations and personal well-being.
71% of French people believe that poor hygiene habits can be an obstacle to a romantic relationship.
