Legendary fragrances revisited, with vanilla playing the leading role
Shalimar is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Guerlain pays tribute to vanilla, one of its favorite raw materials (at the heart of the famous Guerlinade), with the new Shalimar L’Essence (intense eau de parfum, 30 ml, €100; 50 ml, €140; 90 ml, €180).
This new expression of the legendary fragrance celebrates vanilla in all its forms. To the ethylvanillin present in Jacques Guerlain’s original formula, Delphine Jelk (Creative Director of Guerlain Perfumes) has added precious Madagascan vanilla tincture, produced using Guerlain’s ancestral expertise (the pods are macerated in organic alcohol for a specific period of time to develop their unique rich aromas), to give the fragrance new intensity without distorting its signature. On the skin, the iconic scent is still there, instantly recognizable, while remaining in tune with the times.
Used in excess, vanilla infuses it with new facets that are sweet, woody, and slightly leathery.
The vase-shaped bottle with its sapphire blue cap is adorned with bold new graphics in gold lettering. Both rooted in its history and resolutely contemporary, it bridges the gap between the eternal Shalimar and the Shalimar of tomorrow.
