Click, pay, receive… shopping on the Internet is simple and appeals to more and more consumers. The latest OpinionWay survey for Sofinco looks at how the French shop online.

The survey was conducted from February 5 to 7, 2025. 1028 people were interviewed.

Key findings

98% of French people questioned confirmed that they make purchases on the Internet. 73% do so every month. 17% even said they repeat the experience every week.
Respondents say they appreciate this distribution channel because they:
• Find more attractive promotions than in-store (48%)
• Save time (46%)
• Compare prices more easily (40%)
• Find a wider range of products on offer (38%)
• Can shop from the comfort of their sofa (25%)
• Have access to customer reviews (13%)
• Have access to more payment options (11%)
• Can have a personalized customer experience (4%)

When it comes to buying beauty products, 33% of French people like to order online. 66% prefer physical stores, as they can try out products beforehand.

Money, money, money!

For 85% of those surveyed, having a choice of payment methods when shopping online is important, if not decisive.
In addition to being certain that payment is secure (46%), 33% appreciate the option of paying with an e-wallet (PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay…).
