When anti-waste goes cosmetics

Whether for ecological or economic reasons, second-hand fashion is winning over the hearts of consumers. Very popular in the textile sector, this trend is now taking hold in the beauty sector. According to a study by Greez (a platform for the resale of unsold cosmetics), conducted by the YouGov polling firm, more and more French people are embracing the concept of buying second-hand skincare products.

In view of the inflationary context, the French are watching their spending. Seven out of ten French people adopt a minimalist beauty ritual. Eight out of ten use all their products before buying new ones.
The idea of revaluing beauty products is massively appealing. “Three out of four French people are interested in buying unsold cosmetics,” explains YouGov. “However, one respondent in three is still unaware that these products are withdrawn from sale.”

This concept is perceived as both useful and responsible. “Nine out of ten people believe that offering a second life to unsold cosmetics helps to combat waste and gives them access to products at reduced prices, while doing something for the planet.” This perception is most widespread among women (94%), those aged 55 and over (92%) and those in higher socio-professional categories (95%).

Towards responsible consumption?

3% of French people expect cosmetics brands to adopt sustainable practices, including recycling and reuse of unsold products. This proportion rises to 97% among consumers spending between €25 and €49 a month on cosmetics.
