On 14 August 2026, the European Commission launched consultations on two implementing acts and one delegated act under Article 7 of Regulation (EU) 2025/40 on packaging and packaging waste. The consultations are open until 16 September 2026.

• Urban wastewater treatment
In an Opinion dated September 3, 2026, the Advocate General of the Court of Justice of the European Union recommended that the Court strike down, in Directive (EU) 2024/3019 on urban wastewater treatment, the principle of an extended producer responsibility (EPR) applicable solely to the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries.

• “Deforestation-free” Regulation”
On 17 September 2026, the European Commission published Delegated Regulation (EU) 2026/2102 in the Official Journal of the European Union, which amends Annex I to Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 in order to revise the list of relevant commodities and relevant products. Its provisions enter into force immediately.
